Dans la savane du Togo
Une girafe aristocrate
Un peu guindée sur ses talons
Les lèvres rouges, les yeux grimés
Se meurt d'ennui sous le soleil
beaucoup trop blanc
english version :
In the savannah of Togo
A high-born giraffe
Somewhat stilted on high heels
With rouged lips made-up eyes
Is dying of boredom neath the far-too-white sun
"Life can be beastly
and even inane,
how better it is to just
close tight one's eyes,
and then dream out
one's dream life."
"Another glass, Marchioness dear?"
"Why thank you, such an angel you are!"
"Blast but it's hot, the dreams are all melting,
my mascara is running, and what's more I'm parched."
In the savannah of Togo
One must walk to find water
So our lovely giraffe kicks off her heels
Flutters her eyelids
Hums out a tune
And takes off at a trot
"It is somewhat beastly"
Thinks our lady giraffe
"But, oh well, that's life"
